2023 Block of the Month Inspired Challenge
This year we are combining the Mystery Quilt with our Challenge Quilt. Click here for the 2023 rules.
This mystery quilt will be like no other because you are in charge! Each month when a Block of the Month (BOM) is shared at a Guild meeting, we hope you will do two things:
1. Make a block, or two or three, to turn in at the next Guild meeting, using the colors specified. The colors will be specified becasue that will often make all of the blocks work well together, for a scrappy-style quilt. The blocks will be raffled off to one or two members, depending on the number of blocks received. The winner(s) may choose to make them into a Community Service Quilt, or use them however they wish.
-The Mystery Part
2. Each month, make more of the same block, keeping these at home, for the mystery. You will choose the fabric types and colors for these. You may decide to make the blocks in different sizes.
The mystery is....What will you make with your blocks?
-make a wall hanging, using just some of the blocks
- make a sampler quilt using the Guild's BOMs, maybe adding other blocks
-set your blocks in a grid, or on point, or however you like
-use sashing between blocks and/or rows, or don't sash at all
-make a medallion-style quilt, using BOMs as rounds
- make a row quilt of the blocks you really enjoy making
-get carried away with just one block, making an entire quilt from that one
- and always, there are potholders and placemats
Suggestions: Choose a stack of fat quarters that you would like to use together. Include a variety of light, medium and dark tones. Set them aside for this mystery. Use this fabric stash each month for you mystery blocks. You may add additional fabric to the stash as you go. It will be fun to see what everyone does with these blocks. Your mystery Quilt will be lovely, and like no other!
