Seasons of the Mountains
Ashe County Piecemakers Quilt Guild 2018 Fundraiser Quilt Seasons of the Mountains
This year’s fundraiser quilt was inspired by the beautiful place where we live and the seasons we experience as the year progresses.
Starting at the top of the quilt, we have the snow-covered mountain tops and then the dark greens, browns and greys that cover our hillsides during winter. In winter, we see the pine cones of the conifers and a peek of red from the holly trees.
As we move down the quilt, spring with its pale greens, yellows, pinks and reds lighten the mountains and our spirits after a long winter. The woods are punctuated with the bright oranges of the fire azaleas and the pale whites of the dogwoods.
Summer brings the darker, richer greens of the trees and the pastures. Our hillsides are now covered with blooming rhododendron, the woods with trillium and the pastures with chicory.
As the season changes into autumn, our quilt is vibrant with the bright yellows, oranges and reds of the leaves as they swirl in the wind. The acorns mature and the pumpkin patches open. And the Christmas trees begin their long journey off the mountain to brighten the homes of people around the world.
There are a few special details that you can find as you look at our quilt:
The names of the seasons
The snowflakes
The pollen on each pistil of the flame azalea bloom The different reds in the holly berries
The needles behind the pinecones
The number of the acorns
The funds raised by this quilt help to support our guild’s community outreach programs. You could take this quilt home at the end of this year. Tickets for a chance at our quilt are $1 each or 6 for $5.

The 2017 Fundraiser Quilt
The blocks for this king sized quilt were made by guild members and put together by a group made of Tammy H., Joyce C, Catherine F., and Lynda H. Others assisted in the purchase of fabric. It was quilted by Gillian W. You'll be able to see this quilt, and purchase raffle tickets, at various events around the county. Look for us at the monthly gallery crawls, Christmas in July and the Church of the Frescoes festival. Tickets can also be purchased from guild members.
2016 Fundraiser Quilt
"The Bear Went Over the Mountain"
The theme for the 2016 Fundraiser Quilt is All That We Enjoy About Ashe County. We have named the quilt, "The Bear Went Over the Mountain". It is based on the quilt pattern, "Kootenai Forest" by Animas. Four guild members chose the fabrics and Lynda Harris created the top in just two weeks! The hand applique was done by Irene Bebber and the binding was done by another guild member. Gillian Winterton did the quilting.
It will be on display at various events and festivals around Ashe County throughout the year. You can purchase a chance to win this beauty at these events, or from a Guild member at any time. Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5. The drawing will be at our last Guild meeting of the year, December 8, 2016. Please help us continue to provide warmth and comfort to those in our county who need it most.
